Youth who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation need the same thing as all youth: consistent, loving, and skilled parenting, every single day. But the foster families providing such care need extra support from systems to be successful in helping young survivors heal and thrive.
This QPI webinar, Families for Sexually Exploited Children, featured two family-based foster care models for youth who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC): FAM (Family and Me), overseen by San Francisco-based Freedom Forward; and the CHANCE Program (Citrus Helping Adolescents Negatively impacted by Commercial Exploitation) in Florida’s Citrus Family Care Network.
Participants learned about the unique needs of youth impacted by CSEC, and how CHANCE and FAM train foster families to meet those needs with supports including evidence-based individual and family therapies, targeted case management, secondary caregivers, positive youth development activities, and opportunities to develop strong, healthy, and enduring relationships.
