QPI Webinar: Grief and Loss in Child Welfare: A Relationship-Centered Approach

November 20 @ 11:00 am 12:00 pm

Grief is a universal human experience, but within the child welfare system, it is both profound and complex. Children, caregivers, birth parents, and professionals all encounter grief and loss in unique ways, and relationships often shape how these experiences are felt and expressed.

Join us for an insightful webinar where we will explore grief and loss through the lens of relationships and QPI principles. We are honored to welcome Carol Edwards, BSW Program Director, Professional Development Director, and Associate Teaching Professor at FSU College of Social Work, who brings a wealth of expertise in social work and child welfare. Carol will guide us in understanding how relationships can both support and complicate the grieving process, and how a relationship-centered approach can transform our systems of care.

Participants will: Explore the Fundamentals of Grief: Understand grief as a shared human experience shaped and influenced by relationships. Recognize the Diversity of Loss: Examine the many ways grief shows up across child welfare—including for children, birth parents, caregivers, and professionals—and how relationships affect these experiences. Navigate Systemic Influences: Learn how child welfare policies, practices, and systemic factors impact relationships and can intensify the experiences of grief and loss. This 60-minute webinar is scheduled for Thursday, November 20th at 2:00 pm Eastern / 1:00 pm Central / 12:00 pm Mountain / 11:00 am Pacific.
