Sibling relationships are often our first—and most enduring—connections. In foster care, protecting these bonds is not just meaningful, it’s essential.
This month, we’re honored to welcome Lily Colby, Esq., Founder of the National Network for Foster Sibling Connections. Drawing from her lived experience in foster care, Lily brings a powerful perspective shaped by years as a sibling caregiver, licensed foster parent, and national advocate.
Lily will share insights on federal protections for sibling placement and visitation, and how these laws are being implemented—or overlooked—at the state level. She will also provide an overview of national best practices for preserving, maintaining, and growing sibling relationships in foster care, including uplifting promising practices and models from across the country.
Lily holds degrees from Yale College and Berkeley Law. She began her advocacy career as an Equal Justice Works Fellow at the Youth Law Center and the National Center for Youth Law, focusing on caregiver engagement and educational equity for youth in care. Her work has since expanded to include state and federal efforts addressing foster care, homelessness, and disability rights.
